Language Arts



READING

During the course of the year, children will be completing 6 Language 
Arts themes based on the stories and skills contained in 
Harcourt's "Trophies" series.  This series is supplemented 
with leveled books for guided reading and other theme related materials. 
 


HANDWRITING

Third grade is the year the children learn to write in cursive!  In the fall 
they complete a "Cursive Learner's Permit" and then are granted 
their "Cursive License" in the spring.



SPELLING

Student spelling lists consist of a combination of phonetically regular 
words, vocabulary words and some challenge words as well. Students take 
pretests on Monday and tests are on Fridays.



WRITING

One of the highlights of third grade is the time we spend in writing 
workshop.  From elaborative details to great beginnings and endings we'll 
spend time creating writing pieces that children will be proud of and that 
will instill strong writing skills.
