Happy New Year! I think the children enjoyed the delayed opening today. We
are trying to get back into a routine at school. Please try and help at home
by checking assignment pads, folders, and homework nightly. It is very
important that you empty their folders daily. When papers are passed out in
school, I help the children put the papers in the correct place. Homework and
forms to be returned are usually found in the left hand side of the folder
marked "Return to school". Corrected work and other notices go in the
otherside marked "Keep at home".

Many of the children are in need of some new supplies: glue sticks, crayons,
and scissors to name a few things. Please check with your child and put them
on your grocery list so you can pick some up next time you are at the store.
Often the children forget once they get home.

In math, we are working on collecting 1000 pencils. So far we've collected 250
pencils. We only need 750 more. We are grouping them in bundles of 10. They
we are putting 10 bundles of 10 in gallon ziploc bags to make 100. The
children enjoy doing the work together and watching our collection grow. Once
we collect 1000 pencils we will have a community pencil box for the children
to visit and grab a pencil or two when they don't have one in their desk.

If there is no snow or ice on the ground and the temperature is above 32
degrees, we will go outside for recess. Please be sure your child comes to
school wearing pants and a winter coat. Some children are still coming to
school in shorts and a sweatshirt. 30 minutes of outdoor recess in shorts in a
sweatshirt is way too cold. The children are not allowed out to recess if they
are not properly dressed.

Thanks for all you help!

:-) Mrs. Valencia
