Book Report Info

                   Your 1st Book Report
                Due Date: Friday, October 30th

A few important notes:

1. Each student should choose a Caldecott Award Winning book OR a book that
is Traditional Literature from the local or school library. Caldecott Award
books tend to be picture books, not chapter books, so when selecting a book
with your child keep this in mind and know that this is okay. You may want
to pick up 2 books just in case. Then, they should have the book approved by
the teacher and sign up on the Book Report Sign Up sheet. This should be
done by Thursday, October 8th.

You may want to “Google”: Caldecott book list for some ideas. Here is a
great link for book titles:

2. Next, your child will choose to do one of the following assignments:

A. Character Mask: Create a mask of one of your favorite characters in the
book. Be as creative as you would like! You may use a paper plate, a paper
bag or even paper mache! During your presentation, you will describe the
character, some of his or her actions in the story, and explain why they are
an important character in the story.

B. Character Dress Up: Create a costume of one of your favorite characters in
the book. Be as creative as you would like! During your presentation, you
will describe the character, some of his or her actions in the story, and
explain why they are an important character in the story.

3. On the back, you will find the Performance Based Assessment that your
child and I will use to determine their success with the book report project.

4. We hope that this program will continue to stimulate outside reading,
encourage children to broaden their reading interests, tap into their
artistic creativity, and prepare each child to feel at ease when speaking in
front of a group.

5. Please email me or call me if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you for your support! 

                   Book Presentation

You will be presenting your book for 2-3 minutes. Please be prepared to
speak about your book and include the following:

	1. The title and author of your book.
	2. The main characters of your book.
	3. Where it takes place.
	4. The main events of your story.
	5. Why you chose the book.
	6. What your favorite part of the book is.
	7. Any other interesting things from your story.

You can use your project while you present, however, you need to
remember to make eye contact, speak loudly and clearly, and face your
audience. A good presenter does not just read off of a sheet. You may jot
down simple notes on cards to help you remember. Perhaps an index card for
each of the 7 points listed above. You may even want to draw a smiley face
to remind yourself to look up and smile at your audience. Practice what you
will say at home so that you are prepared. I am sure your families will love
to hear your presentation! 
