Morning Meeting

Every morning we gather in this 
area to focus on various literacy 
and math content areas.  
Currently we are learning place 
value using the number of 
school days and focusing on the 
friendly letter format for 
writing during centers.

Writing

Students are writing another story
and the students get to choose any
character they want to have in
their story.  We are learning about
adjectives!  We are also learning
how to write an exciting beginning
to get the reader excited.  We are
still focusing on putting spaces
between words and using capitals
and punctuation.

Reading Groups & Literacy Centers

Students are learning 
cooperatively in pairs at centers 
that focus on reading, writing, 
and word work.  Students are 
pulled from their centers to read 
in small flexible groups on their 
reading level where they learn 
new reading strategies and
comprehension skills.

Recess

Of course this is one of our 
favorite times of the day.  
Friendship is a huge focus in the 
classroom and reinforced during 
recess when our real 
personalities come out.

Math

We are finishing our unit on
patterns and spatial sense and
beginning the chapter on
probability and fraction.  We will
have a combined test of the two
chapters after we finish fractions.

Science

We learn about the weather all year
long and discuss the seasons.  We
will be beginning our unit on
weather in couple weeks.  We will
start next week by discussing the
history behind Groundhog Day!

Social Studies

The main focus of study
throughout the year is friendship 
and families.  We will be 
learning about the different 
types of families, cultures, and 
celebrations.  We are currently
learning about MLK Jr. and will
start learning about the Chinese
New Year in February.

Dismissal

This is the saddest time of day 
for all of us!!  Time to go home.
