Centers

Big Book Center

They read a given text together
to help identify sight words,
vocabulary and phonics skills.

Writing center

Students can choose from a
variety of writing prompts.
Sometimes they are about the
shared reading text, other times
they are about a unit for which
we are currently working.

Listening center

They get to listen to a story on
CD as they follow along with the
text. This helps develop fluency
and vocabulary.

Math Center

They play math games that develop
skills that are being taught at
that particular time.
It changes every week due to the
content we are working with.

Poetry Center

They read new poems every week and
find the rhyming words. This
helps to develop fluency,
vocabulry, and exposes them to
unfamilar text.

Computers

They get to play fun learning
programs geared toward our skills
and development.

Buddy Reading

They like to read books together!
This paired reading helps to
develp vocabulary, confidence,
and independence.

Independent Reading

They find a quiet spot and choose
a book to read independently.
