Homework

Now that I have conferenced with your child and know each students ability,
they will be choosing books from their leveled bins for nightly reading.
They should be able to read these books at home with ease.
They will change bins once their abilities change.
It is ok if they are able to get through the book without any trouble. I do
not want students to have to worry about decoding any words or having to
skip words they don't recognize, which may compromise their comprehension.

Fluency develops independent reading skills and comprehension and allows
them to be able to write a couple sentences about the story. I will be
monitoring their reading levels through guided reading groups, centers, and
other classroom activities in order to monitor their reading abilites and
adjust their bins accordingly.

Spelling homwork will be given as well, depending on what is given for math
that night. We will either do the spelling during the school day or it will
be given for homework. I am finding that it is too much to be given math,
reading AND spelling in one night twice a week.

Students will have a math worksheet to complete each night. It will be a
review of what was taught in class that day or ealier in the week.

No homework on the weekends!

Homework should not be frustrating for the child or parents! If anyone has
any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me by e-mail or
call the school and leave a message for me.
