Now that I have assessed each student and conferenced with your child, they
will choose homework books that coincide with their abilities. They will
choose books from leveled bins for nightly reading. These books should be read
with ease and without frustration. Students will change bins as the year and
skills progress.
It is fine if your child can read these books easily. This develops fluency,
comprehension, and allows the student to write a sentence about the story
without trouble. I will monitor their reading through guided reading groups,
centers, Reader's Workshop, and other classroom activities.
Spelling homework will be given Monday and Thursday while the reading homework
will be given nightly. I will start to give math homework later in the month
on the days they don't have spelling. Again, this is reinforcement and should
not be difficult. It will be reinforcement of what was done in class.
No homework on the weekends!
If anyone has any questions or at any point you find the homework to be
difficult for your child, please feel free to contact me!
Thank you!
