With Halloween just around the corner, I will be sending home a notice
regarding our Halloween party. Please look for it in your child's Take Home
folder. I could use 2 volunteers for the classroom as well as donations of
snacks and paper-goods...
Shared reading- "Once Upon a Time"
We will discuss what folktales are as well as the function of quotation
marks within a story.
Math- Addition and the concept that adding will be reinforced. I will
introduce the vocabulary "addend", "sum", and "plus sign". We will practice
adding vertically as well as sums to 7 and 8.
Writing- Students will continue journal writing with a given topic which
will reinforce sentence structure, upper case letters, punctuation, and word
spacing.
We will also discuss adjectives and their purpose within a story. We will
think of our adjectives to describe a jack-o-lantern.
Spelling- We will practice short vowel "e" words and
homework will be given Monday and Thursday.
spelling words: jet, set, met, bed, yes, leg
challenge words: led, vest, mend, mess
Frienship Fridays- We will discuss things we care about and important people
in our lives. They will create "I care" mobiles inclusing family, friends,
pets.
Request:
A handful of students either did not complete or left their homework at home
last week. Together, if we reinforce the importance of homework and reading
every night, students will recognize the importance as well. This is a great
time to start teaching to developing good study habitsas well as
responsibility. Setting a homework time at night and finding a cozy, quiet
place to complete it may help make it easier.
Thanks!
Have a terrific week!
