Our Class

That's disgusting! What is it?

Slime

A wonderfully slippery, non-
Newtonian substance. Better known
as slime. I found the recipe on
nationalgeographic.com and
figured it would be a perfect way
to assess whether students had
mastered the skills taught in our
Math Measurements chapter. It's
also pretty simple to make, IF
you follow the directions.
In 1 cup mix 2 tablespoons of
white glue and 2 tablespoons of
water.
Mix in 4 drops of food coloring.
Stir well.

In a separate cup mix together
one-quarter cup of warm water
with a half-teaspoon of Borax
(found in the detergent aisle).

Combine and stir the contents of
the the 2 cups together. You
will have excess water. Before
removing slime, use your hands to
knead the mixture, making sure
you COMPLETELY mix all glue.
(Otherwise you will end
up with sticky, rubbery slime)
*** Oh yeah, non-Newtonian means
it doesn't behave like a normal
substance.
Sometimes it acts like a liquid,
other times it's like a solid.

Room 20 Reading Stars

As we all know, one of the best
ways to learn great stuff is by
reading. This chart allows
students to keep track of how
much they read each month.

Classroom Library

This area provides a place for
students to comfortably read and
meet to discuss science and social
studies.

Current Events Assignments

Each week, students have a few
homework assignments based on
current events. Basically, there
are 3 steps in the assignment.
Each Friday, students bring in an
article from an appropriate
newspaper, on-line source or
magazine. We briefly go over
each child's article title.
Between Friday and Tuesday, each
student is responsible for
reading and understanding the
article. On Thursday, the child
is then responsible for
submitting a written response
based on the "Current Events"
homework form.

Bank of Room 20

This student is paying the weekly
helpers for a job well done. Each
student has his/her own account
with balance book and checks.
Classroom money can be saved and
used to buy items in the class
room
store.
