| Welcome to Room 24, also known as the teddy bear room. We have our resident
hugging bear, Byron, in case anyone is having a bad day and needs a hug.
We of course are moving along with our Fourth Grade work as the year
continues.
Our Subjects
READING
We are now reading three new books all about dogs. They are "Because
of Winn Dixie, "Stone Fox", and Strider" All take place in different parts of
the country, so we are also learning about different lifestyles.
Social Studies
Our next unit will be about the Southeast, since we have now completed our work in the
Northeast.
Some of our main ideas will be the geography, city life, attractions and economy of this region.
We will also find out about some of the people famous or otherwise who are part of the history of
the Southeast.
MATH
We continue to change classes for Math. This still seems to be
working out
nicely. Our groups are now starting to focus on multiplication and division. It
would help if the children
studied their facts at home.
SCIENCE
We have completed our unit on electricity, and our animal reports have been presented to each
other. We are now ready for our Unit on Motion and Design. Here we will build and test models to
investigate methods to increase and decrease distance and speed.
WRITING
We will continue to practice the basic rules of grammar and
punctuation as we enhance our skills in narrative writing by practicing the use of details and good
description in our work. Our big project will be to write a hard-cover book which we will share
with the First Grade before we take them home for keepsakes.
