| HOMEWORK WILL START ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2008.
Homework is an important element to your child's adjustment and
growth in school. Kindergarten homework is designed to be completed
with an adult or older sibling. Homework is given on Friday. Unless
specified, homework is due BY the following Friday.
Every week your child will bring home a "Book Bag" which will contain
two or three books. The children choose the books from a large
selection. There will be some weeks when your child brings home the
same book(s). That is fine. It means your child enjoys the particular
book.
When your child brings home the books:
1. Find a comfortable place to sit together.
2. Talk about the cover.
3. Take a "picture walk."
a. Start on the first page.
b. Talk about the picture. Do not read the words.
c. Continue steps a and b through the second to
last page.
d. Go back to the beginning of the book. Read
the story together.
e. Discuss the story/book as you read it.
4. Read the book several times together.
5. Your child will start to read the book back to you.
6. Let your child read the book to anyone and everyone!
When your child returns the books to school, he/she will be asked to
read one of the books to the class. This will be his/her choice. (They all
want to!)
Most weeks your child will also bring home an activity sheet. Usually it is
related to the letter of the week, a holiday or special activity. Again,
the activities are designed to be completed with an adult or older sibling.
Please do not do the activity for your child. There are a few activities
from which to choose. You can complete one activity or all of them. It is
entirely up to your child. BUT, at least one activity must be completed.
