| SNACKS: Send in a nutritious snack daily. Examples: sandwich, cheese,
yogurt, fruit, veggies, popcorn, pretzels, crackers, etc. Please save candy,
fruit rollups or fruit snacks, cake, cookies, etc., for home treats or on our
special party days.
CLOTHES: Children should come to school comfortably dressed. We always TRY
to protect clothing during messy activities but, sometimes, clothes may get
"messed up". Remember this when dressing your child for school.
JACKETS, SWEATERS, BOOTS, BACKPACKS, LUNCHBOXES, PERSONAL ITEMS: Please label
all items with your child's name. Sometimes, they don't recognize an item
anymore than we do!
ABSENCES: If your child will be out, please CALL the school (783-3521),and
the bus company (783-9763) to let them know. Also, on the day of your child's
return to school, you must send in a note explaining their absence.
TISSUES: In a very large effort to convince the children to wipe their noses
in tissues rather than sleeves and hands, we go through many boxes of tissues.
If possible, at some time during the year, could you please donate one box of
tissues. THANKS!
TOYS: Try to encourage your child to leave his "home toys" at home. We
explain to the children that we have plenty of "school toys" here to play
with. However, if there is a reason that your child NEEDS to bring a special
toy to school,- for example, if they had a bad morning or an upsetting
experience, then, it's fine. Just write me a note to let me know.
SHOW AND TELL: We encourage the children to explore the outdoors environment
and we encourage the sharing of "Nature" items and special books.
NAMES: When writing your child's name on things or when teaching your child
to recognize and write his name, PLEASE write it with upper and lower case
letters. For example: Bobby Jones. PLEASE DO NOT WRITE IT IN ALL UPPER CASE
LETTERS such as: BOBBY JONES. It is very difficult for the children to
unlearn the UPPER CASE WAY and to learn and accept the "school way".
VISITS: I would love for all parents to visit their child's class. (Parents
of 3 year olds may need to give their children some adjustment time before
visiting.) If you just want to observe, that's fine. If you want to do a
craft activity, teach a song, play a game, or read a story, that's fine too!
Do whatever you're comfortable with.
ALLERGIES: If your child has an allergy, you must notify the nurse and us. I
need to know how it affects your child in the classroom. Can he have that
item at all? Can he be near someone who has that item? Can he have something
made with that item? What do you want us to do when party items come in? If
your child has a peanut allergy (no matter how slight), the nurse will not
allow us to give them any food brought in, from any home other than their own,
unless we have a note from you saying that it is ok.
WEEKLY LETTERS: Please read the weekly letter that I send home. (I apologize
now for all the spelling errors, incorrect grammar and punctuation. I teach
preschool,-it's ok!!) The letter certainly does not tell everything that we
will be doing,- only the different, special, outstanding, and most talkable
items and moments. I hope that it will be informative and helpful to you as a
parent in knowing the latest goings on in the classroom and in stimulating
language with your child.
CHANGE OF CLOTHES: Make sure that we have a change of clothes for your child,
in case of "accidents". Please update this as needed due to growth or season
change.
BIRTHDAYS: If you would like to send in class birthday treats for your
child's birthday, that's great! Let me know in advance if you can.
DRESS FOR THE WEATHER: Unless it is terrible- (rainy, bitter cold) weather,
we try to go out to play everyday. Please take this into consideration when
dressing your child and make sure they have the appropriate clothing items
including mittens, hats, boots, whatever!
PARKING: Please do not park in either of the two school personnel parking
lots, when dropping off or picking up your child. You must park on the street
or in the far parking lot by the baseball field. It is important that you let
anybody who may be transporting your child know this also.
PICKING UP CHILDREN: We can only dismiss your child to individuals listed on
their emergency card. Let us know (letter or phone call), if someone on the
card, (other than their usual pick up person), will be picking your child up
that day. Please let that person know that we will ask them to show their
license before we release the child.
