How can I help my child in school?
The best way to help your child is to be aware of school rules and
classroom activities and reinforce them at home. If you have questions about your child's
progress at any time of the year, please feel free to connect with me and I will be more
than happy to meet with you.
--------------------------------------
Will my child have homework in Kindergarten?
Any homework will be listed on the weekly newsletter. As a general rule,
please reinforce the letter and sight words for the week. Also, read daily to and
with your child!
--------------------------------------
What does my child need for snack?
Snack is just that... a snack. Many parents make the mistake of sending
three or four food items along with a drink. Please send in only one food item and
drink with your child for snack. Healthy snacks like fruits and vegetables are great! DO
NOT SEND IN CANDY FOR SNACK!
--------------------------------------
My child has a birthday coming up. Can I send in a birthday snack?
Birthday snacks are fine. The simpler, the better, I have found that while
parents like to
shower children with large snacks, they are happy with just one small
thing to eat. One cupcake, cookie, or brownie is plenty. Children tend to bring in drinks
for snack, so drinks are not needed.
--------------------------------------
What if I forget my child's lunch, backpack, or library book?
Please drop your child's belongings at the office and refrain from
walking items down to the classroom. These interruptions add unneeded distruptions to the
classroom routine. Mrs. Stone will contact me in the room and we will retrieve the items as
needed.
--------------------------------------
What should my child wear to school?
Kindergarten is messy and fun! Please send your child to school in comfortable clothes that your
child can easily move in as well as put on and take off.
--------------------------------------
Are parents allowed to visit?
ABSOLUTELY! When coming in, please sign in at the front office and
get a visitors badge. I do ask that parents refrain from visiting the first month of school so that we
can get into a routine and learn to feel comfortable at school.
We do have a Paired Reading program in our classroom. Sign up to be
a reader, and you can come in every month to read to and with children!
--------------------------------------
How do I contact another parent for a playdate?
We cannot give out family addresses or phone numbers. I do set up a
playdate list in the fall for distribution only to families who wish to be on it. If you need
to get in touch with a parent, send in a note with your child addressed to that family.
--------------------------------------
Can I send in birthday invitations?
We do not advocate sending in birthday invitations. Please utilize the
playdate list or local phone directory for getting in touch with parents for birthdays.
--------------------------------------
What happens on delayed openings?
DELAYED OPENINGS
Typically, delayed openings are 90 minutes. Please check the local news or the milforded.org site for
delay/cancellation/early dismissal information.
We miss our specials when we have a delay.
We do have snack, although it is a short one.
--------------------------------------
What time is an early dismissal?
Early dismissal, either weather-related or conference days, is 1:00.
Children will still have snack and lunch at school on these days.
