Morning Message
Every morning, we read the morning
message. Through this activity, we work on
pre-reading and reading skills like
identifying sight words, parts of a sentence,
and sounding out words. |

|
Computer
We have two computers in our classroom.
The children follow a weekly schedule during
center time in the afternoon to use the
computer. |

|
Book Corner
Here, children may self-select and cozy up
with a good book. The world mural on the
wall was made by my 2004-2005 class as
part of a unit on Martin Luther King, Jr.
Reading together makes Peace on Earth! |

|
Discovery Center
In this center, an activity is put out that is
related to classroom units of study. Here,
there is a money matching game that we
used during our money unit. |

|
Playdough
This is a favorite center time activity which
helps to build those small muscles needed
for writing! |

|
Schedule
Our schedule is posted every day so the
children can see what will be happening
during the day. At the beginning of the year,
the words are written with pictures. In
January, the cards are slowly changed over to
simply text. |

|
Games
We love games! In this game, students jump
on a sight word that they can read. We vary
the activity by making a "quicksand" list; any
word on the list is "off limits", and if you
jump on it, you are in "quicksand" and have
to sit out the game. |
