FAVORITE MUSIC

We use a lot of Dr. Jean's songs in class. Much of her music is based in
developing letter and sound skills. She also uses a lot of call and response
formats. While her voice is not very harmonious, she is great fun! Some
favorite songs are "Tooty Ta" , "Lettercize", and "My Mother is a Baker".

Red Grammer has a great CD called "Teaching Peace". We have been learning
this song as part of our Martin Luther King, Jr. unit. He has a melodic voice
that children and adults will love. He also has recordings for adults, too.

Ella Jenkins is one of my favorite children's musicians. She has been in the
industry well over thirty years, and she specializes in multicultural music
for young children. Many of her songs are in a call and response format. My
personal feeling is that she was a pioneer in the music industry for promoting
equality for all children and cultures. She has a very sweet voice and
oftentimes, she is singing with children, so you can hear her instructing the
children as well as hear the children sing. Some of our favorite songs are
"Dulce Dulce" and "Jambo".

There is also a tribute album out entitled "A Cellabration", which is
wonderful! This album is a collaborative effort by different children's
artists singing Ella's songs.
