--------------------------------------
Does my child have to read every night, even on weekends?
Yes, your child should get in the habit of reading every night, even on
weekends. If occassionally you have an extra busy weekend, this may not be
possible. Keep in mind the more your child reads and you sign the reading
log, the more pints the child gets toward a shopping day once a month and
other incentives.
--------------------------------------
If I forget to sign the Reading Log, but my child reads, will he get credit?
No, unfortunately, the Reading Log must be signed by a parent in order for the
child to receive credit.
--------------------------------------
Can my child read a magazine and get credit?
Student must read part of a chapter book first. Then he/she can read a
magazine, a picture book to a younger sibbling, or an online article and
he/she will receive credit.
--------------------------------------
Do I(Parent) have to write a comment and sign the report card?
Yes, we do appreciate your feedback comment and require a signature.
--------------------------------------
Does my child have to read the nonfiction book aloud to me?
Yes, this is to practice and check fluency. The more the child reads the
passage over, the more fluent (smooth) he/she should become.
--------------------------------------
How can I help my child?
Listen to our child read the nonfiction pages. Encourage him/her to read
chapter books on their independent level. Sign the Reading Log each day.
Play memory vocabulary game with your child. Quiz your child on vocabulary.
Set a good example by letting your child see you reading daily and tell them
when you have come across a word that you're not familiar with or see used
often, or has more than one meaning. Share with your child an interesting
article that you read in the newspaper or magazine. Show your "love" for
reading and how often you need to do this in your daily life. (reading a
grocery list, recipe directions, road signs, mail, etc.)
--------------------------------------
What if child leaves "envelop" packet at school?
Student can still do extra reading and you can write a note and sign it
describing what student read.
