Can we send in treats for a child's birthday?

Absolutely. You may send cupcakes, cookies, muffins, etc. on the day you'd
like us to celebrate the big event. It's best to send something that is
already in individual portions, rather than sending in a cake. Also, please
don't send in anything that requires refrigeration or freezing. Currently, we
don't have any food restrictions or food allergies to worry about, but it's
always a good idea to avoid nuts and nut products of any kind, just to be
safe. We celebrate birthdays in the afternoon so that we don't interfere with
lunchtime appetites.

Can we send birthday party invitations to be given out at school?

You may send birthday party invitations to be handed out at school ONLY if the
entire class is being invited to your party. We all love parties, but we
don't love it when someone feels left out or has hurt feelings. If you're
keeping your invitation list short, please send your invitations outside of
school.

What should a Room 14 kid bring for a snack?

We take a snack break at about 9:45 each morning. Kids can bring a healthy
snack and something to drink. Please don't send any candy, soda, or drinks in
glass bottles. If someone forgets to bring a snack, I always keep animal
crackers and/or pretzels to offer in order to quiet growling stomachs.

Can parents come to help out in the classroom?

We love to have moms and dads come in to help in the classroom. Parents can
read to/with children or help with a special project. If you're interested in
volunteering, please send a note or an email. We've had many moms and dads
come to Room 14 this year, and we really enjoy having them here.

My child is a walker. Where should I pick him/her up?

Walkers are dismissed from the doors at the end of the 1st-3rd grade hallway,
right outside our classroom. In order to let Room 14 kids leave me, I need to
see that their "grown-ups" are there to pick them up. For safety reasons, I
can't let a child walk up toward the parking lot or drop-off loop. In snowy
weather, students might be dismissed through the front doors of the school.

Who can pick up my child from school?

Only people who are listed on your child's Emergency Card will be allowed to
pick up your child from school. If I don't know the person you've designated
to take your child for you, I'll ask for identification. If you need to have
someone who is not on the Emergency Card pick up your child, send a note and
please call the office to update the Emergency Card. We're very careful to
release your child to the people you've designated!
