How can I find out if school is cancelled?
Log on to the Internet to site http://www.milforded.org.
-- OR --
Call the Milford Board of Ed at 783-3400 for a recorded message
after 6:15am.
Listen to your local radio stations (WICC, WEZN, WAVZ, and WPLR)
and/or television newscasts (WTNH-TV, WVIT-TV, or Channel 12
News).
Please avoid calling the school office for school closing
information. We prefer you use this as a last resort as we only
have two phone lines entering the school and in case of
emergency, we try to keep these lines open.
What time does school start if there is a delayed opening?
Grades K-5 at Calf Pen Meadow Elementary School will begin at
10:00am in the event of a delayed opening. However, parents
should continue to check the website or listen to announcements
as weather conditions may require that a delay be changed to a
full cancellation. All Milford Public Schools will have a 90
minute delayed opening.
What time will school end if there is an early dismissal?
Grades K-5 at Calf Pen Meadow Elementary School will dismiss at
1:00pm in the event of an early dismissal. When afternoon
sessions are to be cancelled, please check the website or listen
to the stations listed above.
I need my child dismissed in a different way than usual.
My child is going home to a classmate's house which requires
his/her to be dismissed a different way than usual. What should I
do? A note must be brought to school with your child stating that
you have given your permission for him/her to go home by
alternate means. The person taking your child MUST be on your
emergency card, or you child cannot be released to him/her. If
an emergency occurs during the day that requires you to make
other plans for your child, you may call the school office and we
will pass the information on to your child as well as their
teacher.
Do I have to report my child's absence?
YES! All absences must be phoned into the main office (783-3521)
or to the school nurse (882-5172) as soon as possible on the day
of the absence. You don't have to wait until school opens to let
us know your child will be absent. You may call anytime and
leave a message to that effect.
When your child returns back to school following an absence, they
MUST bring in a note explaining the nature of the absence in
order for the absence to be excused. If your child is under the
care of your doctor, please bring in a note from the doctor.
Can I request homework be sent home to my child when they are ill?
Homework pick-up can be arranged through the main office at 783-
3521. We ask that you request work after two days' absence. When
you are calling in your child's absence, please let us know at
that time if you are requesting homework. You can pick it up at
the end of the day or ask another student to bring it home.
Who do I speak with about my child's lunch account?
Our kitchen manager is the person in charge of our lunchroom
accounts. She can be reached directly by dialing 783-3612 and
can tell you your child's lunch balance as well as provide you
with a computerized printout of your child's account
activity if requested.
My child has an appointment during the school day.
My child has a dentist/doctor appointment in the middle of the
school day. How do I go about getting him/her dismissed early?
If at all possible please have your child bring a note to school
stating that they will be dismissed early. You must come to the
main office to pick up your child and sign them out of school.
Please do not go directly to your child's classroom, as this
is a disruption for the rest of the class.
My child has forgotten their lunch, homework, etc., at home.
My child forgot their homework, lunch etc. at home and I need to
bring it to the school. Can I go directly to the classroom and
drop it off? No. All forgotten items must be left in the main
office. We will notify your child that they have a delivery in
the main office.
What is the procedure for volunteering at or visiting the school?
You must sign in at the main office and receive a visitor's pass.
Don't forget to sign out in the main office when you leave.
Can I bring a treat for my child's birthday celebration to school?
You must discuss this with your child's classroom teacher. There
is always a possibility that one of your child's classmates has a
food allergy or a medical condition that needs to be considered.
What is the earliest time I can drop off my child at school?
Supervision both inside and outside the school begins at 8:10
am. Therefore, please do not drop your children off at school
prior to 8:10 am.
