Grade 8 Honors Homework

February 20- IRB Rough Draft due Friday.  Finish reading your Holocaust book for Thurs.  You should come to class with two thoughtful discussion questions for your Book Club meeting.

February 13- "Hiding" writing assignment is due tomorrow.  
                        Next Book Club meeting / discussion questions are due on Friday. Make sure you are keeping up with selected reading.

February 12- IRB Date has been moved to 2/25

                     Continue to read and log on character, conflict, and resolution. Minimum of 4 logs this week.

February 7- Going Into Hiding Writing assignment will be due on Wed.

February 6- Next Book Club meeting is on Friday.  Make sure to have your two discussion questions ready.
                   Bring headphones to work in computer lab tomorrow.  We will be examining survivor testimony.

February 5- Begin looking at www.ushm.org to find survivor testimony about going into hiding.  You will need to select three by the end of class on Thursday.
                     Finish book club reading for tomorrow. 

February 4-IRB Date 2/21
                    IRB reading and logs.  You should have at least 5 entries this week. Remember that your Holocaust book is your first IRB.
                    Study Island assignment is due on Friday--DRP

January 31- Read Ch. 8-8 in Parallel Journies  Make sure you are reading in your new Holocaust IRB--we will meet in groups tomorrow.

January 29- Read Ch. 6-7 in Parallel Journies

                    Read Ch. 1-2 in Parallel Journeys Take notes on experiences for Alfons and Helen. Due on Friday

January 17- Today in class we started typing the final draft of energy drink essays.  The final copies will be due tomorrow by the end of class. Flash drives will be needed in the event you need more than class time to finish.

January 14- Reading / logs.  Minimum of 5 this week
Adjective / Adverb quiz on Wed.

January 9- Complete energy drinks rough draft.

January 7- Reading / logs. Minimum of 5 this week. 
                  Study Island assignment on adjectives / adverbs due on Jan 14.  Minimum of 2 rounds and 80% cumulative score required for full credit.

January 4- Reading logs will be checked on Monday.

January 2- Independent reading and logs.  Minimum of 3 entries this week.


December 20- Reading logs will be checked tomorrow. Minimum of 3 entries this week.

December 17- Study Island assignment due tomorrow. Remember that 80% equals full credit on the assignment.
                       IRB Rough draft due Wed.  We will by typing the final copy on Wed during class.     
                        Reading logs will be checked on Friday 12/21...minimum of 3 entries this week due to rough draft
                        writing.

December 14- Study Island assignment due on Tuesday
                        Read and log- mimimum 5 entries this week

December 11- Parent signature needed on progress report.  This will count as a homework grade

December 7- Subject / Verb Agreement and Pronoun quiz on Tuesday
                      Remember to keep reading / logging for IRB--minimum 5 entries this week.
                      Bring in 3rd source on energy drinks to evaluate

December 4- Students were given a study island assignment to complete by Monday.  The assignment is called Pronouns and can be found through their login and password towww.studyisland.com  Students need a cumulative average of 80% or better on the assignment to receive full homework credit.  A lesson on pronouns was given in class.

December 3-  Reading logs were checked today in class.  Be sure to continue reading and writing logs for IRB. 
                       IRB final copy date is December 19.

November 29- Complete "Flowers for Algernon" Elements of a short story chart

November 28- Finish reading "Flowers for Algernon" and complete your final role sheet for Book Club Discussion tomorrow.

November 26- Rough draft for IRB should be completed in composition book for tomorrow. 
                        Rough draft was started in class.  Final copy will be typed tomorrow.

November 19- IRB reading should be completed by Monday 11/26.  You should complete at least 3 logs in composition book.  This will also be checked on 11/26.

November 16- Elements of a short story chart will be collected on Monday.

November 12- Reading logs were collected today.  Make sure you keep reading EACH night, but this week, you will complete a Elements of a Story chart for your IRB

November 9- Continue IRB reading / logging in composition book

November 8- Continue IRB reading / logging in composition book

November 6- IRB reading begins on a new book for Quarter 2
                       Log on character and conflict in your composition book.

October 31- Edit / Revise quiz tomorrow. 
                     IRB rough draft due on Friday.  Your rough draft should be completed in your composition book and ALL questions should be fully answered with text evidence.  We are typing the final draft on Friday.

October 26-Your focus this weekend should be on finishing your Independent Reading Book.  The write-up will be done in class on 11/2.

October 22- Vocabulary Quiz tomorrow

October 17- Rough draft of IRB due tomorrow.

September 27- Continue reading in new IRB book.  Be sure to continue to log on character and conflict.

September 21- Finish IRB reading / IRB log. 
                        Bring book and composition book on Monday to write a rough draft in class.

September 19-  All classes should be working on independent reading and writing in IRB logs.  IRBs will be written in class on 9/25

September 11- Practice book talk.  Presentations will begin on Thursday.

September 10- Finish book jacket and practice your presentation

September 6- Fix outline for booktalk. Make sure your outline has 3 clear sections that follow the requirements of the rubric.

September 5- Prepare your BookTalk outline

September 4- Finish notes for Book Talk



August 31- Study literary elements / definitions. Quiz Next week
