Regular stuff for EVERYONE:
-
Keep a name tag on all instruments. Rentals often come with a tag that should
be filled out with at least the student name, phone number and school
homeroom. If you need a name tag, see Mr. Smit
-
Parents: write down the serial number of the instrument your child plays on
and keep it in a safe spot at home (even if its a rental instrument). Many
instruments and instrument cases look a like and knowing the serial number may
be the only way to identify which instrument is yours.
-
Keep all instruments in good working condition - it really makes a difference!
- If you are playing a rental instrument from CT Music, see them for a repair
(leave with Mr. Smith). For personally owned instruments another option is Mr.
Jim Gebler of Fine Band Repairs, nearby in Guilford (185 Whitfield Street,
203-458-0330)
-
CLARINET & SAXOPHONES: keep a supply of reeds, this is very important! Also
make sure you have some cork grease and keep those corks lubricated well!
-
BRASS players: make sure you have some valve oil or slide oil. Lubricate your
valves or slide at least once a week. You should also have some tuning slide
grease, this is used on the 3 removable tuning slides of the trumpet, as well
as on the trumpets main tuning slide and the trombone main tuning slide.
-
EVERYONE should have a folding music stand at home for practice!
-
PRACTICE CHARTS have been handed out to all students. This is a great way to
get recognized for your practice time. No matter how much or how little the
student practices, please get is written down, and signed by the parents at
the end of each week. This REALLY WORKS to have great musicians and wonderfull
bands! :)
