Announcements

Welcome- (Please view the 'Calendar' for scheduled happenings.)

Please check your child's planner on a regular basis throughout the
year. Be sure they are writing all assignments in it daily. If you see a
problem please let me know. Also, the 'Planner' is a good way for us to
communicate with each other. You can write a note to me at the bottom
of the page as needed and I will do the same.

There are currently 20 students in our class and all of them previously
attended Joel School.

Each student has been given a "Planner" which they are to use daily for
homework assignments and other information. They are to bring it each
day and take it home daily. (In other words, it should always be with
them.) It is a great "tool" when put to use. All Pierson students are
REQUIRED to utilize them.

Students have at least 3 "study buddies" listed in their planners which
are classmates that they can call to get or clarify homework assignments.
They have also recorded our specials schedule for reference. In addition,
they have recorded how all homework papers are to be set up with name,
number, date, subject, and specific assignment that they can refer to.

Students need to keep their own supply of pencils, pens (optional, I
suggest Erasermates), loose leaf notebook paper (NO homework on spiral
edged paper) and a binder/trapperkeeper.

Students have been given several folders to keep their work neat
and organized. Two of these folders you should see daily. The GREEN
"parent folder" is for papers, returned work, and tests for PARENTS to
see. The RED "homework folder" is for STUDENTS to keep their
homework, etc. in. Parents, please DO NOT take things out of this
folder. If you think it needs cleaning out, have them do it.

All students need to bring a nourishing snack which we will eat each day at
about 10:00. This is especially true this year as they do not eat lunch until
12:50. Water or a juice box during snack is fine. Please avoid sugar laden
snacks.

I do send home Arrow Book Club and Scholastic Software offers each
month. I feel the time it takes to put these orders together is worthwhile.
This is another way I encourage reading. Prices are good, well below the
list price. I hope you and your child will take advantage of these offers often
throughout the year.

Thank you for your anticipated support. Together we will provide the best
school year possible for your child.
