Top Text Title: Top Text: B7 April News Update Remember that students have their Study Island "log in" numbers and they should be going on the second grade skills practice. Students are now asked to log DAILY reading on the Reading Log in their folders. Something should be written EVERY DAY to show students are reading for the required 20 minutes. Please include what pages (page numbers) were read. In Language Arts we finished working on learning the format of a friendly letter and how to write letters. We made our own book of letters to our Fairy Tale Characters. We are also doing an Author Study of Tomie dePaola. We have read many of his books and have learned about how Tomie grew up in Connecticut and what he learned from his family. Tomie was Irish and Italian and enjoyed writing about those cultures in many of his stories, or retelling fables from those countries. These stories are helping us to think about our own families' heritages so that we are preparing for the Heritage Show and Tell Presentation on May 2nd. In Language Arts we are also working on the most important part of stories, ang giving reasons for why we think that is the most important part. We also continue practicing using the text to "back up" or "prove" our answers/opinions by listing details from the text. Please practice this skill with students when doing homework and reading at home both for NF and F texts. In Science we just finished our unit of Weather. After our Heritage unit we will be learning about healthy eating and MY Plate. In Social Studies we have just begun working on countries around the world, and learning about our own families' heritage. Students will be asked to give a show and tell presentation at the end of April explaining their heritage and what country part of their family came from. Please help your child in preparing for this presentation. A guide has been sent home to help you in thinking about an object that is appropriate for the presentation. In Math students are learning about numbers 1- 999. Discussing three digit numbers, ordering and writing three digit numbers, comparing three digit numbers and changing 100s, 10s or 1s place digits. Parents are also asked to continue practicing adding and Subtracting 2-Digit Numbers as many students are still struggling with this skill especially when regrouping is necessary. Our next show and tell presentation will be on Wednesday May 2nd. It's HERITAGE DAY in B7. Everyone is asked to come in to school with an object of some sort that represents their family's heritage. Many students have multiple backgrounds, only one is necessary for the presentation object. Remember that students should be dressing in layers now that the warm weather has arrived! Students may bring in a sweater or sweatshirt to leave in the room for when they get chilly. Remember to put names on tags! Students need a HEALTHY SNACK DAILY. Sugary snacks and chips are not appropriate for our morning snack time. MANY STUDENTS ARE FORGETTING SNACKS OR ARE BRINGING CANDY AND JUNK FOOD. Remind your child of healthy food choices.
