We can really use any donations of tissues! Thanks.

October Updates:

We are really in some good routines as we've begun the school year. Parents -
thank you for supporting the reading calendar homework assignment. By
signing this on Thursday nights to verify that your child has read, it
reinforces the importance of reading for pleasure.

As classes, we are currently reading Holes and working on our skills, such as
predicting, questioning, making connections and writing in response to the
literature. Students are enjoying this book, about a boy named Stanley who
is ordered by a judge to go to a "camp", where he must dig a hole each day.
Ask your child to describe the setting, characters, or events in this book,
to engage in conversation about what they are learning.

During our reader's workshop time, students read and respond to books they
have selected themselves. They can choose these books from my classroom, our
school library, or bring in from home. I am pleased with the letters they
are writing to me about this reading, as I can already see them improving, by
using suggestions that I offer them in my written responses in their
notebooks.

Again, thank your for your support in your child's reading and writing at
home. If you have any concerns or questions, please contact me at 720-5227,
or chukad@naugy.net
