I am a graduate of Naugatuck Public Schools and Southern Connecticut State
University where I received my B.S., M.S., and 6th year degrees. I have
been teaching social studies and language arts to Naugatuck's sixth-graders
for the past 34 years. I am also a bass player/songwriter and have received
an honorable mention certificate from BILLBOARD MAGAZINE's songwriter
contest. Some of my original music can be heard on my website
www.soundclick.com/algrella. I also have written short stories, poems, and
a novella. In addition, I performed proofreading work for Dr. Henry Lee and
Dr. Gerald Labriola on the manuscript for their collaborative effort, FAMOUS
CRIMES REVISITED. I am currently a member of the Garnet Team at Cross Street
Intermediate School for grade 6.
The mission for all my classes is for students to find Room 16 as a safe
haven to take intellectual risks and to celebrate diversity. Students will
constantly be challenged to be analytical thinkers, readers, and writers.
