SOME AWESOME BOOKS
  1. Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins
  2. Heat by Mike Lupica
  3. The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick

Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins

Gregor and his baby sister, Boots, fall into a strange Underland beneath New
York City where they meet the Underland people and giant creatures such as,
cockroaches, spiders, rats, and bats. The people believe that Gregor is the
warrior mentioned in an ancient prophecy who is meant to save their
civilization.

This is a great adventure story and a true page turner. Everyone I know who
has read this book loves it. The good news is, if you like this book, there
are more books in the series. They are:

                   1. Gregor the Overlander
                   2. Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane
                   3. Gregor and the Curse of the Warm Bloods
                   4. Gregor and the Marks of Secret
                   5. Gregor and the Code of the Claw

I have read all of the "Gregor" books and when I read Gregor and the Code of
the Claw, I was so sad that this great series had come to an end.

Heat by Mike Lupica

This is the story of 12 year old Mike Arroyo who lives in the Bronx. He
wants to pitch his all-star team to the finals and get a shot at the Little
League World Series but there are lots of big problems to over come...

If you love baseball, this is a great read. I can only think of one reason
why you might not love this book - Mike is a Yankee fan and this book takes
place in the Bronx - the home of the Yankees. Even so, I still think that
Red Sox fans should give this book a chance. I loved it!

The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick

This is an amazing, suspenseful story about Hugo Cabret - a thief, an
orphan, and a clock keeper who lives in Paris in 1931. He lives in the
walls of a train station in Paris and has many secrets that he must keep.
When he gets involved with a strange girl and a crabby old man, his world
starts to crumble. I was so excited when I read this book that I told every
one who would listen about it.

It won the Caldecott Medal for the Best Illustrations of the year and is
part picture book, part graphic novel, and part movie. Really, when you
read this book, you will feel like you are watching a movie! Don't miss
this one - it is awesome!
