The
Media Center is open from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., Monday through Friday on school
days.
Individual
students or small groups (4 or fewer) may come to the media center to
checkout books or use reference materials. If a teacher wants more than four
students to come to the media center, the teacher needs to schedule a time
with the media specialist and an adult should accompany them.
Library barcodes are attached to materials.
Students may check out two books for two weeks.
Reference materials may be used in the media
center. Teachers, though, may check out reference materials for classroom use.
Students are responsible for books they sign
out, but if they are lost or damaged beyond ordinary repair they are charged
purchase price. All efforts will be made to return money if a lost book is
found and in good condition.
Students are asked not to repair books in any
way, but to bring them back to the library for repair.

Media Center Sign-Up Calendar
Teachers are encouraged to schedule time in the media center for
instruction and/or research.
These visits should be based on cooperative planning with the media
specialist. Information literacy skills may be introduced and or reinforced by
the media specialist.
Upon request, the media specialist will construct bibliographies and/or
web-based resources to support classroom teaching. Teachers will be asked on a
monthly basis about topics covered in their classrooms to help support
curriculum coordination.
The media center web site is a continuous work in
progress. Please e-mail the media specialist with ideas, suggestions and
requests for items to be included in this resource. It is located at: http://www.teacherweb.com/CT/EastShoreMS/MediaCenter/ap1.stm
According to national standards, finding,
locating and using information in any form contributes to student achievement.
This is the basis for shelving all the Dewey Books together.
There are 10 computers in the media center to
be used for research and the online card catalog. At these stations, students,
parents and teachers can also use online databases or from their computers at
home. The East Shore Middle School online databases are as follows: Elibrary,
Ebsco Middle, Grolier Online, and ABC-CLIO World Geography. For passwords,
please contact the school library.
The East Shore Media Center makes all efforts to support
the educational curriculum of the school.
Units of research are planned with the classroom teacher
when possible and teachers are asked if support materials are needed in their
classrooms.
