Online Databases

An efficient alternative to search engines, subscription databases are a wonderful way to track down what you need for research quickly. The online information provided by these databases has also been reviewed by knowledgeable people. Access the following links from school or home. However, you'll need user names and passwords to access them from home. Mrs. Van Keuren can provide them to you.

Explore more than 200 countries. Find country profiles and overviews, history, important statistics about population, climate, economics, culture, biographies, influential organizations, primary source documents, maps, flags, and photos.

Access full-text articles and transcripts from more than 850 magazines, newspapers, books and radio programs from eLibrary. History Study Center covers 14 centuries of history, and Proquest Learning includes author biographies, full-text literature journals and reference sources.

Use this database’s Student Research Center to find more than 51,000 entries in the Columbia Encyclopedia, full-text articles in over 145 magazines, plus newspaper articles.

Updated monthly, this resource "contains thousands of new and expanded articles, extensive hyperlinks, bibliographies and links to other sources of information on the Web."

Click on “Access from Home/ Office” and enter your library card barcode number

Connect to a variety of links including newspapers such as the Hartford Courant and New York Times, plus magazines and journals.
