About The Teacher

I have been teaching in Milford for 26 years as a special education teacher
in a self-contained classroom setting.
I first started at Simon Lake school, then Point Beach and after Point Beach
closed I taught at Foran High. After 3 years, I had the honor of teaching at
Live Oaks and stayed there until the program moved into the middle schools. I
was the 1st self-contained class to go to middle school in Milford. I have
been here ever since and enjoying every aspect of this experience.

Mission For The Class

Your children will be learning a great deal this year. It will be
very exciting to them, you and me. It may take a few weeks for them to get
acclimated to the routines and their schedules. Their schedules are guides to
help them transition, but at times their schedules will change, especially
their functional classes with me. That is the beauty of self contained. If
issues, questions, concerns or lessons need to be addressed we can quickly
revise and deal with it at that moment. We also will be going out into the
community to practice the skills we learn in class and developing our social
skills.
We have 2 para¡¦s this year in our room: Mrs. Debbie, who has been with me
from the start of East Shore. She is my right arm and helps our room run
efficiently. Mr. Rich Salter joined our team this year and has jumped right
in.
Their Enhancement teachers are: Mr. B., Mrs. Freidman, Mrs. Delio, Mrs.
Dotson, Mrs. Simmons, Mr. Jambor, Mr. Conrad and others may be working with
your children from time to time such as Social Workers etc.
If you have any questions, concerns please feel free to call me or
jot it down in their communication books.
Thank you for attending our open house. I am looking forward to
working with your children.
Please take the time to complete the permission slips and any other
forms that are in this packet and return to me soonest. Also if you have not
returned Emergency Cards, insurance whether you are getting it or not and any
other forms that were sent to you please send it back with your child
completed.

Goals and Objectives:

To meet the needs of the child, socially, emotionally and
academically.

To promote positive social interpersonal relationships at school and
at home.

To provide many experiences that will enhance learning both
academically and socially.

To provide opportunities for growth, developing confidence, self-
esteem and independence.

TO HAVE THE STUDENTS APPLY WHAT THEY HAVE LEARNED TO THEIR EVERYDAY
LIVES.

To be able to do functional practical math skills.
To be able to perform everyday life skills.
To be able to interact with their peers in different situations
throughout their day.

The students will be:
„«	Learning Pre- Vocational skills
„«	Opening and keeping their bank accounts up to date.
„«	Cash their paychecks, some money goes into their savings account; the
rest goes for snack/items at different places we may go when we venture out
into the community.
„«	We will learn different functional skills then
apply them at different areas in the community.
„«	Their paychecks will be $15.00 so please determine how much they can
spend and how much goes into their savings.
„«	The pre-voc skills will be part of their work-study program. That is
how they get paid. The students are very dedicated to their jobs. Sometimes
we will use our paychecks to go on different field trips such as the Post
Mall, Public Library, Grocery Store, Park, Downtown, etc. We will either
walk, use public transportation or our school system buses/van.
„«	On weeks we don¡¦t do banking, we will participate in other Life
Skills such as grocery lists, cooking, planning meals, planning Best Buddies
activities, etc.
„«	All these activities will help increase money skills, social
awareness and promote everyday life skills that will help them in their
future.
