Grew up mostly in CT but also in NY, KY, DC, and, OH. Graduated from George
Washington University with a B.A. in American literature. Worked at first
as a production planner at Helicoil Products Danbury, CT. (Know what they
make?) Very interesting, learned a lot, and decided not to spend my life
working in the business world. Went back to school to obtain teacher
certification. Started teaching in 1980. Teaching ever since. Much fun.
Received an M.A. from the University of Bridgeport in modern British
literature.
To learn to read critically and to write effectively. Why? Because these
abilities increase your power to think, to imagine, to understand and to
communicate. Without this power, you will be limited, and the life you live
will be incomplete.
These classes are workshops. You will read and write as much and as often
as possible. The idea is to learn by doing. If you are not challenged by
the work we do--if you do not feel that your understandings of reading and
writing, of yourself, and of literature and language are expanding and
growing--let me know.
The work is fun--not 'put on your party hat' fun but fun like going on a big
hike is fun; you see lots of cool things along the way and arrive at a new
place with a feeling of accomplishment.
