Math

Some strategies to increase your child's math success:

  • Ask your child to tell you what the day's math lesson was about.
  • Review math vocabulary so your child can better understand and explain the important concepts.
  • Work on word problems together: have your child read the problem out loud and then ask if they understand what the problem is asking them to do. Doing this will help your child break problems down into sequential steps.
  • Make connections to real-life situations so that your child can better understand why math is so important to our daily lives. At the store discuss costs of items, how much savings there will be on items bought with coupons, and show the importance of counting change after paying.
  • To bring your child up to speed, drills and flash cards are a fun and effective way to practice basic math facts.
