What Reading Looks Like in Kindergarten
This year your child will learn his/her letters, sounds and will also learn
how to segment those sounds into words. The most important thing to keep in
mind is the importance of reading every single night. Frenchtown has a
monthly reading calendar. Each night you can read to your child or your child
can read to you (when ready) for 20 minutes. This 20 minutes can be broken up
into segments that best suits your child. After the reading is completed, all
you have to do is put a smiley face on the monthly calendar and sign it. At
the end of each month, send the calendar into school in your child's wolf
folder so the he/she can recieve a prize. If all reading calendars and summer
reading calendars are handed in throughout the year your child will recieve a
very special reward in June. Remember the best way to help encourage your
child to read is to work with them and make it fun every night :).
