Grade 8 Art
All students will work to improve their basic level of art skills.
Students work on a variety of 2-D and 3-D projects. They will also use a
variety of media. The projects are designed to help students be successful
regardless of starting ability. Grade 8 projects build upon skills acquired
in prior years and challenge students to work at a higher level.
Marking Period grades are weighted as follows:
Participation: 45%
Projects: 45%
Reflections: 10%
Imbedded in art class instruction are life skills:
� Planning, Brainstorming, & Decision-making: Making & comparing alternate
approaches to a challenge.
� Revising/Editing: Examining work and critically assessing it to find ways
to make it better.
� Reflecting: Analyzing and writing about the final art project to:
1. assess its quality,
2. identify and describe the project's strengths and weaknesses,
3. describe ways to improve one's work in the future.
� Math-related Skills:
1. Estimation/Approximation of Measurements
2. Knowledge and use of geometric shapes & forms.
� Time Management/Self Monitoring: Learning how to budget and monitor one's
time to complete multi-step tasks/projects.
