We start off our exciting year of Science by looking at the life cycle of plants. The children will know the different parts of a plant and when they appear in the cycle. Fall is a wonderful time to explore this unit since we are able study apples, pumpkins and sunflowers. The children will perform experiments in which they will create hypothises and test their theories. Ms. Keating, our Science teacher, will also enhance this unit with the activities she has planned. She will focus on the different types of soils that plants need. The children will make observations on their 'I notice, I wonder' charts. We also will take a field trip to the Bartlett Arboretum, where the presenters will discuss with the children how seeds travel.
We will read many nonficiton books during this unit and will also explore National Geographic for Kids. This is a magazine that has exciting articles that the students love!
