Dear Families, In our continuing effort to promote the interest of reading, we will be assigning weekly reading logs to your child. As of today, we are sending home this reading log with your child. They will be sent home at the beginning of each week on Monday and then collected at the end of the week on Friday. We are asking that your child read a minimum of 60 minutes per week. Your child must read a minimum of 15 minutes per night. On the reading log, we are asking that your child fill in the date he/she read, the title of the book, magazine or article, and lastly, the time he/she began and ended the reading. Please give your child the responsibility of filling in the log on his/her own with your guidance. All you have to do is initial the reading log each night to ensure that your child has actually read the minimum of 15 minutes. We are trying to promote the love of reading! Encourage your child to read many types of literature that are on his/her reading level. Students should practice the five finger rule when selecting books (ask your son/daughter for an explanation!). Help your child choose books or magazines that truly spark his/her interest. Visit the local library for a great variety of children’s books! When children read literature that interests them, they tend to read more. Children need to practice reading just as they need to practice a sport or an instrument in order to improve their skills. Third grade is a challenging year and expectations are rising! Therefore, this project will help prepare students for the road ahead and encourage the pursuit of knowledge and imagination through the enjoyment of literature. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your support! ***Please contact me if you need assistance finding books at the appropriate reading level for your child or books he/she is interested in. I would be more than happy to help.***
