In 1992 the Special Olympics and Ct Interscholastic Athletics Conference created a partnership
program called Unified Sports which they introduced into the Connecticut schools.
Unified Sports combine individuals with disabilities (athletes) and individuals without disabilities
(partners) on sports teams for training and competition in baseball, basketball, track and
volleyball. The athletes and the partners compete side by side, each one a meaningful and integral
part of the "unified sports team".
