Welcome to Fourth Grade! Homework is a very important part of fourth grade. There are several purposes for homework. The first is to practice a new concept learned in class. This type of homework will include vocabulary, reading, and math. For this type of homework, students are reviewing a new concept presented during a lesson. If students have questions, they can write them on their homework, and bring them in for discussion. The second type of homework is practice of a previously learned skill. This means that students should be independently completing this work. This is just a review to keep strategies, algorithms, vocabulary, and skills freshi in their minds. The third type of homework is preparing for an upcoming lesson or test. This includes studying! To study, students should reread vocabulary and/or texts, write definitions, repeat concepts/spelling verbally, write spelling words multiple times, make flashcards, and even work with a classmate. Homework is written in agendas each week (usually Monday) and should be completed nightly. In fourth grade, we encourage students to be responsible for checking their agendas to see what each night's assignment is. Homework is assigned for every day we are in school- including Friday's. Students should complete the homework assigned in pencil, and return it to school the next day. Names (first and last) should be written at the top of each page, as well as the date. Math StudyLinks also have a space for the time. Homework completed in pen will be returned and completed again in pencil. Incomplete or missing homework will be completed during recess, along with a Homework Notice. Students must return the Homework Notice the following day with a parent/guardian signature. This is to keep parents informed about home habits. If you have any questions, please click on my email link, write a note, or call my extension to leave a message (860-228-9493 x152).
