Book Care

It's the backpacks and now we have proof!! Books that were
loaned to the Saxton Library for Horace W. Porter's summer reading
progam were returned to the school in excellent condition. These
books did not end up in backpacks because students usually do not
take their backpacks to the town library over the summer. Book
bindings and corners of books can be crushed in backpacks, and many
books are ruined by leaking juice and water bottles, which
unfortunately need to be replaced.
I'm not sure of the best solution. I know some students bring a
special book bag to school when they have library, which is a
wonderful idea, but I know that makes for another item to remember
and carry. I am looking at purchasing sealable plastic bags to send
home with library books; the bags will be labeled and will need to be
returned with the library book!

The following is a list of things our book borrowers can do to
protect and preserve our library books!!

1. Keep books dry, a book that gets wet may develop mold.

2. Use a bookmark to keep your place, please don't fold over the
corner of the page (we call this a dog-eared page).

3. Do not write in library books.

4. Keep books away from pets.

5. Keep books away from younger brothers and sisters, they haven't
yet learned how to take care of books.

5. Please have clean hands when reading your library books.

6. Put your library book in a special place, then you will always
know where to find it.

Thank you for being a partner in taking care of our library books!
