I have been a teacher at Horace W. Porter school since 1970! I love
teaching the children of Columbia and it is especially awesome to teach the
offspring of former students from many years ago! I have taught second,
third and fourth grades throughout the years here at Porter and I am really
enjoying working with the present second graders.
I graduated from Eastern Connecticut State College with a Bachelor's
Degree in Elementary Education and earned a Master's Degree in Education from
Central Connecticut State University.
I reside in Marlborough with my husband. We have two wonderful sons who
are both college graduates and they both have exciting careers. Our oldest son
Christopher just got engaged this September (2009) to a lovely girl and we
are thrilled! They will be married in 2010. We all love nature and animals.
Some of our pets throughout the years have include horses, many cats, dogs
and even a pet snake! He grew so large that he now has a happy new home!
I have traveled all over Europe and the United States and especially
love Alaska and the Outer Banks in North Carolina. During the year,I also
care for the elderly in my family and I help them to keep well and live an
independent life style. This past summer, I really enjoyed having time to
work in my gardens at home and to go kayaking. It is such an amazing sport
and it gives me the opportunity to get exercise while enjoying the beauty of
nature. Our Goldendoodle dog is now one, and he continues to add a lot of
life to our house as well. Doodles was born in Columbia so he has a very
special place in my heart!
Our classroom will be a safe and caring learning environment where all
children will work together cooperatively and treat each other with respect.
I will make learning fun, foster creativity and good self esteem and
teach children to be life long learners. Each child's academic and personal
needs will be supported in a warm and friendly learning environment in our
classroom. Each child will also have the opportunities to reach their
fullest potential and be successful here at school.
