The primary purpose of the social studies curriculum is to help students gain
knowledge of world geography, the physical and human characteristics of a
location, the way people and the environment affect each other, the way
people, goods, and ideas travel from place to place, and the areas of the
world that have common physical, human, or cultural characteristics. We will
examine these social studies themes through non-fiction and historical fiction
texts, periodicals, hands-on research projects, and class discussions.

Grade 6 curriculum will emphasize:

North Africa and Southwest Asia
Asia including India, China, and Japan
Africa south of the Sahara
Current Events and Issues

Grade 5 curriculum will emphasize:

The First Americans
Colonial America
American Revolution
The United States Government
