Reading Homework Checklists:

This week (Nov.10-13) your child received a reading homework checklist sheet
in his/her bookbag. Please initial under each day that your child reads
his/her books and practices his/her word-ring words. The goal is to have your
child read at least 1 bookbag book (or part of it if it's longer or more
challenging) and practice some sight words from the word-ring every day.

The sheets may remain in your child's bookbag or you may remove them for the
week, but the sheet should be returned to school in his/her bookbag each
Monday. On Mondays I will review the lists and your child will earn an extra
sticker if all of the boxes are initialed. If you have any questions, please
don't hesitate to ask. Thank you.

Fall Conferences:

If you haven't already, please get in touch to sign up for a Fall
Conference. They will be taking place on Monday, November 23rd and Tuesday,
November 24th. These are early dismissal days for students. A reminder will
be going home prior to these dates to notify you of the date and time you
signed up for (if you have done that already).

Spring Conferences:

Spring conferences take place by parent or teacher request and are not
mandatory for every student. They are scheduled for Thursday, March 11th.

Choice/Share Fridays:

On Fridays, students in my class have the chance to
bring in something special from home to share with their classmates. It
must be something appropriate for school and which you allow them to bring.
In other words, they must have your permission. In addition, students are
not allowed to bring something to school which is not allowed on the bus.
I'd also recommend against bringing anything fragile in for obvious reasons.

The special items must remain in students' backpacks until the end of the
day on Friday. If students are distracted by or playing with the special
objects during the school day, I take the special item and return it to them
the following day. If it again becomes a distraction on the following day,
I will keep the toy until a parent/guardian can come to get it from me
personally.

Usually the class enjoys this special aspect of Fridays and there are no
problems. It creates great opportunities for conversation and social
interaction while also helping us better get to know one another. As
always, if you have any questions or concerns please let me know.
