Math

As part of our math program, homework is given regularly and you can expect to help your
child with his/her homework beginning in mid to late September. The homelinks are review of
skills already taught at school and should take up to 15 minutes or so to complete, but they are
meant to be done with help from you as necessary.

A Parent Letter will be going home for you to read before we begin each math unit. Please
hold on to it because it offers lots of information about what we'll be covering, vocabulary,
games, and much more for each specific unit. That way you can more easily understand how
various skills and concepts are taught at school and reinforce them at home.

As these homelinks are meant as review and practice of already learned material, please let
me know if the material is too challenging for your child. That way I can review the material
in greater depth at school and perhaps even offer alternative approaches that might work better
for your child. If any math homelink is too frustrating for your child, substitute something
more appropriate in its place and in whatever manner is best for you, please communicate to me
what the difficulty was with and what you did as homework in place of the assignment. This way
I can discuss it with your child and he/she will not be penalized for not turning in or missing
a homework assignment. Working together and keeping comminication open, we can better meet your
child's needs!

Things You Can Do At Home

In addition to completing the Math Homelinks with your child each night, please continue to
work on identifying and writing numbers, comparing numbers, and counting up and back by 1's, 2's, 3's,
5's, and 10's.

Throughout our mathematical learning this year, students will be introduced to many
strategies that may help them. Part of learning involves recognizing what strategies work for
us as individuals, and knowing when to utilize them to be successful. Please encourage this at
home, too!

If you would like any other ideas, please feel free to email me. Math is fun!
