Board of Education policy states that fouth grade students should recieve approximately 40 minutes of homework nightly. Homework usually consists of 15 minutes of reading, a math assignment and other various assignments that arise throughout the year. Each student is responsible for writing the assignments in their agenda book each week. I will initial to verify that the assignments have been recorded correctly. To keep the lines of communication open, I would appreciate it if you would write in the agenda if your child has had difficulty with any assignments. Homework Assignments: Each night students should study their +/- and multiplication facts. They will also have a math work sheet to reinforce what they have been learning in class. Students should study their spelling words nightly. Each child has created their own spelling notebook to keep track of their own personal lists. Words to be practiced are the words that they have misspelled on the weekly tests or on the preview words lists for each unit. Occasionally there will be a spelling skills practice sheet for homework. If a student needs more words to study, they should focus on the level four core words that are starred. The starred words are new to fourth grade. There will also be a Making Words or a D.O.L. (Daily Oral Language) activity. There may be CMT practice sheets on reading, grammar, editing and revising. These sheets will alternate weekly. Besides the suggested 15 minutes of silent reading, they may be asked to read aloud their "book buddy" book to an adult. At times there may be a science or social studies activity to be completed. They usually have a longer period of time in which to complete these as these classes meet every other day.
