CLASS NEWS...December 16th, 2009

Word rings in the reading bag will be updated every TUESDAY. Your child will
be asked to read the words on the ring. If he/she knows it, it will come off
the ring. If he/she doesn't, it will stay on the ring another week. New
words will be added each week.

The children are responsible for picking the book for the night's reading out
of their book boxes. If your child comes home with a bag, but without any
book inside of it, ask him/her if he/she remembered to take a new one. If
not, just send the bag back to school the next day and we'll try again!

If you would like snow pants or boots to stay at school in your child's
cubby, please provide a note or email so that I know that you gave permission
for this to happen.

We are in need of recess equipment! Please send in any balls (foam or rubber
please) or playground chalk that you are willing to donate. Please DO NOT
send in any footballs as these have caused problems in the past.

I currently have 3 volunteers for our holiday craft party. Please let me
know if you are interested in joining us next week. This is a fun and
rewarding event!

PLEASE NOTE: All first grade classrooms are holding their craft parties at
different times. The invitation looks the same but the times are different.
Our class party will take place on Monday morning, from 10 - 11 AM!

PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION STATEMENT...

My philosophy of education centers around the belief that every child can
learn! Regardless of what skill level your child is at, he/she is capable
(and most times eager!) to rise to a new level. The children naturally seek
to make sense of reading, writing, mathematics and social studies/science
because these subjects are an integral part of the world around them.

I believe that your job as a parent is equally as important as my job as a
teacher. The support you provide at home, your attitude towards schooling,
and the experiences you enrich your child's life with are all important
factors in his/her approach to education.

I am thankful for such wonderful and caring families in the community of
Columbia. By working together, we can watch your child blossom during the
course of the school year!
