Our school uses the Everyday Math program. This program is spiral in nature, touching upon mathematical concepts throughout the year. Your child will work on learning to tell time to the hour and 1/2 hour, identify and count money, addition and subtraction facts, basic fractions, basic geometry concepts, estimation skills and overall number sense.
This week our class is focusing on beginning number scrolls and reviewing time.
Your child will start the year participating in games and activities to strengthen number sense,
counting skills and problem solving. Daily lessons will include a full class "warm-up", a
lesson introduction, and time for independent/partner/small group application of concepts.
Look for Parent Letters in your child's folder to keep you informed of what he/she is learning in first grade mathematics.
You can help your child with math at home by working on the math Homelinks together and discussing what your child is learning in class.
