I have been teaching first grade at Horace W. Porter School since 1999.
I LOVE teaching first grade because I think that first graders are the
BEST!!!
I am a life-long resident of Connecticut. I was born and grew up in
Manchester and attended Manchester High School. I earned my Bachelor's at
Providence College in Rhode Island in both Elementary and Special Education.
I received my Masters from Eastern Connecticut State University. My graduate
studies were in the area of Reading and Language Arts.
My husband, Gary, co-owns an archery pro shop in Andover. This past
summer we had a baby we named Mark. He is an amazing baby! He loves to
laugh and be silly. He also loves when we read books to him. We have a very
sweet, friendly 2 year old dog named Hunter. Sometimes she can be a bit of
trouble, but we love her anyway!
In our classroom, the students and staff become a school family and our
theme is "Everyone Belongs..."! We spend time checking in with one another
at our daily morning meetings. We enjoy sharing news with each other during
the week and Show & Tell sessions. We work hard to learn and grow together.
My students quickly learn that I am an avid sports fan! I spend most
Sundays rooting for the New York Giants and my baseball allegiance is to the
Boston Red Sox. I love attending games at Fenway and I always hope to be
watching my team come October.
I look forward to working with the class this year. We will
participate in numerous special projects and events. One of my very favorite
events is the celebration of reading on Dr. Suess' birthday. Our classroom
will also countdown to a 100th day celebration. We will host
an Author Celebration for families and friends. We will have fun in grade
one!!
Our mission is to grow and learn together. As a first grade school
family we will cooperate and help each other in many ways. Each student
will be a learner and, although every child develops at a different pace,
the goal is for each child to meet with success at his or her level of
ability.
