Reading

Roaring Reader:
Students are expected to read every night for twenty minutes for the Roaring
Reader Calendar. The calendar is due at the end of every week.

Reading for Points:
Every time a student finishes reading a book, they are to fill out an index
card with the title, author, number of pages and a short review. This can
be an opinion of the book, an explanation of a favorite part or character or
a connection to another book, real life experience or author. Every time a
child reads 100 pages, they will receive a sticker on our chart. If a book
has beyond 100 pages the extra pages will be carried over and added on to
the next book. Books read for Roaring Reader can be used to gain points. At
the end of the year, Mr. Gabriel will treat the top three readers from our
class to lunch and dessert!

Reading is taught through reading response notebooks in fifth grade. Each
student reads a book on their "just right" level. Students are daily
answering questions based on their reading in their reading journals.
It is our goal to encourage children to read and think utilizing a variety of
genres.

Students also particpate in weekly guided reading groups.

 HAPPY READING!!!
