How can I reinforce the concepts being taught in class?

1. Read to your child daily and participate in the Roaring Reader 
program. 
Ask questions and discuss the story. Ask about the sequence of events. What do
you think will happen next?
2. Read the weekly Kindergarten newsletter out loud to your child. 
Follow up by reinforcing the concepts covered in the classroom.
3. Be sure to choose a few of the activities from the activity sheets that 
are sent home at the beginning of each theme to complete with your 
child. These activity sheets should all be stored and organized in your
Kindergarten "Playbook".
4. Provide a shoe box in which s/he can keep his/her take home books.
5. Make muscle word cards at home that you can use to practice these 
words.
6. Encourage the writing of words, sentences, and stories. When writing
letters and words be sure your child is using the correct formations by
referring to the Letter Formation Guide found in your Kindergarten "Playbook"
or on this website.
Let them sound out words and write down whatever letters they hear. 
7. Promote good listening by teaching your child to use whole body 
listening. Hands still, feet quiet, lips silent, eyes watching and then ears 
listening.

What do I do if there is a change in my child's dismissal procedure?

Send in a note informing me of the change. Remember that the children 
are not allowed to change buses to go home with a friend.

How can I help my child to be more organized in school?

1. Put your child's snack in a separate snack bag or box.
2.Label all jackets, sweaters, boots, hats, mittens, backpacks, and 
lunchboxes.
3. When sending money to school for any reason, the money must be in 
an envelope labeled with your child's name.

What skills should I be teaching at home?

1. Encourage responsibility and independence, possibly through 
providing age appropriate chores and simple household tasks.
2. Stress good health habits, particularly washing hands and using the 
lavatory properly. Encourage eating nutritious snacks.
3. Invite a friend over to play and encourage sharing and helping others.
4. Listen to what your child is saying and encourage complete 
sentences.

How are birthdays celebrated in school?

Due to the many different allergies that the children are bringing with them
into the classroom, we have decided to change our birthday celebration
procedure. Instead of sending in a food item to share with the other children,
we are suggesting that you send in one paperback book to donate to the
"Birthday Book Basket" in our classroom library. It should be one of your
child's favorite books. When a book is donated, we will add a bookplate to 
the inside front cover with your child's name and birthdate. In this way,
every child can enjoy the books and the safety of every child will be ensured. 
Your child will also be bringing home the birthday book bag which may be kept
home for three or four days before being returned to school.Enjoy 
the birthday stories together!
