I've been teaching Spanish longer than you've been alive. That's all you
have
to know. But, if you want the equivalent of the diplomas on the wall:
B.A., Albertus Magnus and the University of Madrid (via Marquette University)
M.S., Central Connecticut State University
Also: classes and/or workshops at the State University of New York at
Albany,
Yale University, and various and sundry school districts, companies and
groups.More than I even care to remember.
I did my major research work in graduate school on the relationship between
Mysticism and Post-Romanticism in Spanish poetry (as represented by John of
the Cross, de Leon, Becquer and Cernuda - of course!), so don't try to scare
me.
There are now several Miss Sullivans in the school. Please do not confuse
us.
Make sure any parental contact, etc., goes to the proper Miss Sullivan. By
the way, I am not to be known as "the old one" or "the one who's been here
forever." Even if it's true. My email address is csullivan@milforded.org.
We are here to learn to speak, understand, read and write Spanish on a more
advanced level. This requires constant practice and work - like playing a
guitar, tap dancing, playing baseball or any skill, it needs constant
attention. Spanish builds; you need to remember your previous years of
Spanish, of course, to move on in here. And you'll need this to stick in
your
head to move on from here. But, just like the guitar, the tapping or the
baseball, the more you practice the more it becomes second nature. When you
have your first dream in Spanish, you'll know it's happening! Even one
phrase -you're late to school, running through the street and it's turning
into quicksand and your pants are falling down, and you hear yourself
yell "Ay, chihuahua, me choca la escuela!" right before you fall off a cliff
and wake up. Yeah, that's when you know it's becoming a part of you.
