We had a great week. We did a great job on staying focused on learning,
even though it is so easy to get distracted by holiday fun and cheer. We
learned a lot from "Hip and Cool" When we feel frustrated or angry, we can
"Stop, Take Five and Think"! Ask your first grader about this strategy.
We also had our first school-wide "Lock-Down". We have practiced
procedures for a lock down and students did a wonderful job of remaining calm
and quiet. Great job first graders!
Did you hear about our Gingerbread Baby? We were reading "The
Gingerbread Baby" by Jan Brett when we noticed that our classroom gingerbread
baby was gone. He ran away!! We made "wanted" posters and hung them all around
the school. Hopefully, the Stark community will work together to catch that
naughty rascal. Keep your eyes open for a little brown fellow who smells
yummy. If you spot him, return him to room 157!
We mailed our letters to Santa. These were not wish lists, but instead
a chance to put our letter-writing skills to good use. We told Santa a little
about ourselves and then asked him lots of thoughtful questions. We mailed
them using Santa's secret address. Hopefully, if Santa is not too busy, we'll
hear from him soon.
We will have our Pizza Party and Cookie Swap on Wednesday from
11:30-12:25. Parents are welcome to join us for holiday cheer. Remember...each
student needs to bring in enough cookies for about 25 people. Homemade, family
recipes are preferred but store-bought are welcome. We do not have any food
allergies in our class.
I wish you the best for a joyous holiday season. Know that your
dedication and enthusiasm is always greatly appreciated. Looking forward to
continuing the rest of our year together in 2010!
