When does my child has P.E., music, art and media?
When I receive this year's schedule, I will post it here and on the "Class
Schedule" section of this site. Please be sure your child wears safe,
comfortable shoes every day, as they go out for recess daily. Flip flops
and jelly shoes are unsafe and not allowed at school.

How do I know when my child needs lunch money?
Students have individual accounts in the cafeteria for their lunch money.
If your child plans on eating lunch every day, you can put in a month's
worth of money in the account and when it starts to get low, I'll send home
a reminder. If your child buys lunch for three days without paying, they
will only be allowed a cheese sandwich until the bill is paid.
--------------------------------------
Can I send in party invitations for my child's birthday?
Invitations are welcome any time! If you are sending them to school to be
distributed, please be aware of hurt feelings and either invite all boys,
all girls, or the whole class.

How do I place a Scholastic Book Order?
I will be sending home Scholastic Book Orders every month. These are very
reasonably priced books that help us add to our classroom library by giving
us bonus points. Of course you do not need to order every time, but your
child gets a huge motivator to read for as little as $1. So please order
when you can.

Why do I need to send in a change of clothes for my child?
Children still have accidents!! Sometimes the bathroom is busy and children
underestimate how long they can wait. Other accidents such as paint or food
spills can happen, too, and it's uncomfortable for your child to sit in wet
clothes. We will be asking you to come to school with clothes if an
accident occurs. I'll send home the clothes at the end of each season for a
new set, so please bring them in if you haven't already.

My child says he/she went to time out! What should I do?
Time out is a tool we use in Responsive Classroom to help a child regain
their self-control during the day. After one reminder of acceptable
behavior, a child will be asked to 'take a break' until they are ready to
join the group again. If a child refuses to go to time out or continues to
be disruptive while sitting, we ask for a Buddy Teacher to remove the child
from the room so they can calm down in the class next door. If a child
still has difficulty going to Buddy Teacher or if they have to go to Buddy
Teacher two times in one day, we will ask an Administrator to remove the
child so they can regain control in the Reflection Room. If your child
visits the Reflection Room, you will receive a phone call from me or from
the teacher that sent them. Your children have worked hard to establish the
rules they feel are fair for us to achieve our Hopes and Dreams this year.
Please review them with your child and encourage them to do their best.

How can I volunteer or help the class?
There are many events throughout the year that you can participate in if you
wish. One of our biggest family event is the Thanksgiving celebration (my
favorite!) where each family is encouraged to send in their favorite holiday
dish and attend our feast. We will need chaperones for field trips, parents
to come in and be a Mystery Reader or take a small group to play a game or
read a story, or to attend an All-School Meeting. If you miss something,
please dont' worry - there will be many more. Hope to see you as often as
you can make it!
